What You Should Look For Before Purchasing

Cordless leaf blowers are a blessing. This is true for people who’ve encountered unplugging and plugging those run by electricity in the past. Using three different outlets just to finish cleaning their yard. Gone are the days when you need to coil and uncoil electrical wires. Or the horror of tripping on them.

Armed with a list of the best cordless leaf blowers today, you’re now ready to shop. But how do you know which device suits you when every device looks excellent? If you searched for cordless leaf blowers, you know there are just too many of them in the market – too many.

Don’t worry; we’ve created a buying guide just for you. We’re that generous.

Source of Power

The first thing you should take into account is the source of power. Knowing which type you need will help you select the right tool. When it comes to cordless leaf blowers, you have two options: batteries or gas.

Battery:
Batteries have evolved over the years. They’re now lightweight, and you can recharge them at your leisure. Furthermore, with the technology today, we now have lithium-ion batteries. They charge faster and last longer.

Other brands like Black and Decker offer the same type of battery for all of their cordless devices. You can save money from purchasing these batteries and get to help the environment, too. It’s a win-win situation.

Gas:
If batteries are already perfect options, then why do gas-operated leaf blowers exist? Okay, hear me out. If you need cleaning up large spaces, gas-powered ones are your friend. You may need to tidy up extensive gardens where you need to get the debris removed.

Any problematic job and you can rely on these without fail. Think of ten-hectare lands. How many batteries would that consume? We haven’t tried. But if you have such a vast area to test out devices, let us know, and we’ll pack our luggage of batteries.

Type of Battery

Battery operated blowers have two different types. It’s best to learn how different they are and how each affects the performance.

1. Nickel-Cadmium Battery

Let’s face it. There comes a time when we have to stick to a budget. Nickel-cadmium battery would be your choice for this. But don’t worry. They may be cheap, but they’re durable, too. What’s the catch? They’re heavy.

They’re heavy enough that the batteries themselves contribute to the overall weight of the device. You’ll immediately take notice of these when shopping around as you’ll encounter devices with a load of up to 10lbs.

If you don’t fully charge these batteries, your device might deliver poor performance.

2. Lithium-ion Battery

Lithium-ion batteries are now widespread in the market. They have a longer lifespan compared to other types. The leaf blowers are lightweight, and they deliver excellent performance. These lithium-ion batteries will last three times more than nickel-cadmium batteries.

More and more devices are now coming out with lithium-ion batteries. This comes as no surprise. They’re easy to store and they charge faster. We even tried batteries that reach a full charge in just 45 minutes. Have we mentioned they’re great? They are.

Produced Sound

Leaf blowers are loud. Obviously. However, you can check the decibel reading. You don’t need to be an expert when it comes to the sound it produces. Leaf blowers that produce a decibel of 85 and above will harm your hearing. So when you shop around, always go for products with a decibel below 80.

We’ve also noted of this in our review of each model. This will help you compare the decibels of each device. If you’re particular to loud noise, you should pick a leaf blower with the lowest decibel.

Remember, the World Health Organization recommends an outdoor noise level of 55 decibels. For leaf blowers, the ideal noise level is around 60 to 70 decibels.

Power Capacity Of Device

Checking the power capacity of a device should be done in two measurements. Think of this tandem as being similar to pen and paper. They work best when used together.

1. Miles Per Hour ( MPH )

At this point, you’ve noticed that we always include this under the feature of every product.

So what exactly should you look for? Let’s say a leaf blower has a feature of 120 MPH. This number is the rate at which the air escapes from the end of the leaf blower. But don’t go thinking that the higher the MPH, the better. If you don’t take into account where you’ll use it, then it’s useless.

Sure, you have a powerful leaf blower. Then you use it after mowing your lawn. It does its job and blows the grass. Everywhere.

Remember, there are two measurements when it comes to power capacity.  A higher MPH doesn’t mean it will perform better compared to a device with a slightly lower one.

2. Cubic Feet per Minute ( CFM )

Cubic feet per minute or better known as CFM is the measurement of air that’s pushed out of your leaf blower. If a device has a 90 CFM, this means that 90 cubic feet of the air leaves the tube per minute.

Now that we’ve covered them both, here’s how they come together as one. Using the examples above, you’ll be looking at a leaf blower with 120 MPH and 90 CFM. This means the air blowing out will have a speed of 120 that will cover 90 cubic feet of air.

You might think, the faster the MPH, the better. Wrong. Not all devices with a higher MPH will give better results. Sure you get to find a machine with 150 MPH, but then it has a CFM of 60. That will take you longer to clean your yard. This reason is why you’ll see glowing reviews for devices with low MPH.

Check your area and see if you need a device with higher CFM. If you’re clearing pathways and your front yard, then you can settle for a leaf blower with a lower CFM that has a higher MPH. If you’re clearing out a larger strip of land, then find a device with higher CFM. But this doesn’t apply to all cases. If you’ll need to clear out debris and matted leaves, then a higher MPH is necessary. Find the right balance with these two.

Overall Weight of Device

Shopping around stores can give you the advantage of gauging how much they weigh. If you’re shopping online, then take note of their weight. Find an object in your home that has an identical mass.

Carry it around for a minute or two. Do you get cramps when holding it with one hand? Will you need two hands just to grab on to it? Remember, you’ll be using this device for an extended period. If it adds any strain to your arm, it’s not the ideal weight for you.

Ergonomics

Cleaning your yard with a leaf blower should bring you ease. Once you have the device with the ideal weight for you, see to it that it’s ergonomically designed. The design should save your back and arms from harm. Check that the vibration won’t exhaust your arm over an extended period.

Finding The Perfect Device

With our helpful guide and a list of the best cordless leaf blowers, you can now shop around for a device that suits you.  Note that the tools listed above are all based on customer reviews and brand reputation.

Finding the perfect device that suits your needs may take some time. And that’s okay. After all, you’re shopping around for a leaf blower that will last you many seasons. So it’s best to meticulously go over the different features each device offers before you make your purchase.
